[Location: western section of Warfang. Time: afternoon.]
CYNDER: (softly) …and that’s why dragons train here, Sebastian.
SEBASTIAN: (softly) Um, thank you for explaining that to me, Cyndah.
CYNDER: (softly) No problem.
[At present, both the black dragoness and red crab were currently sitting in the lower tiers of a small, circular, outdoor training arena used by young, teenaged dragons. Sitting next to Sebastian was Ember, with her red beloved, Flame, right beside her and their tails entwined. Surrounding them sat a cluster of twenty to thirty juvenile dragons of different elements and between the ages of 14 and 18. Most had their attention on the sunken ring below where sparring match was taking place between Spyro and an earth dragon named Gravel, who was slightly larger and three years older than the former. During their match, both teenaged dragons were combating each other with their elements. Kindle, the Guardian of Fire, was standing on a podium near the edge of the ring, observing the sparring match and giving guidance to the combatants when needed. Lastly, hovering near Kindle’s head was Spyro’s adoptive brother, Sparx, who watched the fight with sheer anxiety and excitement.]
[Back on the tiers, while Flame and nearly everyone else watched the match, Ember glances at Sebastian.]
EMBER: (softly) Sebastian?
SEBASTIAN: (softly) Yes, Embah?
EMBER: (softly) I am most joyful that you helped me and Flame confess our love for each other yesterday. But, still, I want to know what was it that inspired you to help us?
[At this point, Flame had diverted his gaze toward the little red crab when he heard Ember mentioning about their love for each other. Additionally, Cynder had also focused her attention on Sebastian and became curious about the conversation.]
SEBASTIAN: (softly) Well…it happened a long time ago when a friend of mine had already fallen in love another and yet, she couldn’t tell him how she felt be….because she lost her voice. So one night, I…I got some friends together and we… helped provide music to help create the mood…for them to fall in love with each other.
CYNDER: (softly) And did it work, Sebastian?
SEBASTIAN: (softly) Oh, yes…it worked…(sniffed)
[Internally, Sebastian felt sad on account that the event he was referring to was about his friend Ariel and her husband, Prince Eric. The three dragons near him just smiled warmly at him, despite observing that the little crab seemed sad at the moment. Then Ember spoke up.]
SEBASTIAN: (softly) Um, yes, Embah?
EMBER: (softly) Could you please tell me about your world and what it’s like?
SEBASTIAN: (softly) Sure, I guess. I’ve already told Spyro and Cyndah 'bout some of it.
EMBER: (softly) You have?
[When she spoke, not only was Ember addressing to Sebastian, but Cynder as well.]
CYNDER: (softly) That’s right, Ember. Sebastian has told Spyro and me already about what his world is like.
SEBASTIAN: (softly) Well…my world, Ember…is a bit like yours.
EMBER: (softly) How so?
SEBASTIAN: (softly, clears throat) Well… (to himself) oh, where do I begin?
[Cynder sensed that the anxiousness and nervousness within Sebastian and felt sympathy for him as she sequentially spoke.]
CYNDER: (softly) Ember, from where Sebastian is from, he spends most of his life in the ocean. And from he’s told me, many of the fish there can talk like we do. (to Sebastian) Is that right?
SEBASTIAN: (softly) Dat’s right. Cyndah is right about dat.
EMBER: (softly) Are there any dragons in your world?
SEBASTIAN: (softly) No. I’m sorry, Embah, but dere ah no dragons from where I live.
[Ember and Flame sighed sadly at this.]
CYNDER: (softly) There are mermaids though.
EMBER: (softly) Really? And what are mermaids?
SEBASTIAN: (softly) Well…mermaids ah—(yelps)
FLAME: Wow! Check what Spyro’s doing!
[The two dragonesses and Sebastian, though startled by Flame’s abrupt declaration, refocused their attention on the ring below them.]
[Within the ring, Spyro had just launched a Fire Bomb to counter Gravel’s Earth Bullet, resulting in a mid-air explosion. Seconds later, as the smoke quickly dissipated, the purple dragon was observing his slightly larger opponent ascending, to which the latter began charging up another earth bullet. Within a few seconds, when Gravel launched it, in a slight upward direction, it then curved downward at Spyro, whose amethyst eyes shrunk to pinpricks in observing that the green projectile was super-charged. The purple dragon then immediately opened his maw, which emanated a green glow combined with bits of crackling yellow. Then, Spyro launched his own Earth Bullet with hyperkinetic force straight up at and toward his opponent's enlarged green projectile. Upon impact, Spyro’s Earth Bullet overwhelmed and pierced through Gravel’s before continuing on its path upward (thankfully, the projectile missed the young green dragon). Yet, the moment Spyro fired his green projectile, his body was hurtled backwards over several feet and forced onto his back. Within a few seconds, a green explosion was seen a few miles upward in the sky followed by a loud, booming sound that seemed to tremble over all of Warfang.]
[Everyone present within the arena watching the practice match became both amazed and shocked upon witnessing Spyro’s last elemental attack, with Sebastian as the exception who reacted with a loud shriek. Even Kindle was utterly stunned in observing this.]
[The beautiful black dragoness immediately leapt from her seat and flew straight toward her purple mate, with Flame and Ember (who managed to pick up Sebastian) following her in tow. At the same time, both Sparx and Kindle also set off in Spyro’s direction. Cynder, immediately after landing next to her exhausted purple beau, proceeded to embrace and kiss frequently him as Flame, Ember, Sparx, Sebastian, and Kindle huddling around them. After a few more seconds, the couple’s maws came apart as they looked into each other’s faces.]
CYNDER: (worried) Are you alright, Spy?!
SPYRO: (panting) I’m…exhausted…but still…fine…Cynder…
[Sebastian watched as Cynder helped her exhausted purple beau to his feet, while Kindle refocused her gaze on the surprised crowd of youngsters in the tiers.]
KINDLE: Alright, young dragons, you are now dismissed from today’s combat session. May you all have a blessed day.
[The young dragons in the stands then immediately ascended and dispersed in different directions, while Gravel had quickly descended and positioned himself alongside Flame, who watched as Spyro then stood up with his body trembling from exhaustion. Kindle then refocused her graceful visage toward Spyro with a look of concern.]
KINDLE: Are you alright, young Spyro?
SPARX: Yeah. ‘Cause it looks like your havin’ own purple earthquake. (chuckles)
[The golden dragonfly then ceased his laughter after noticing a rebuking glare from Cynder as he sequentially withdrew himself.]
SPYRO: (panting) I’m alright. (exhales)
[The purple dragon then sat down on his haunches, Cynder doing the same as she then draped a wing over her mate’s back and nuzzled him beneath the chin for a moment.]
FLAME: So what kind of Earth Bullet was that, Spy?
GRAVEL: Yeah. I’ve never seen any Earth Bullet that powerful before, not even from a purple dragon like you, Spyro.
SPYRO: (weakly) Well, when I saw how large and powerful Gravel’s Earth Bullet was, I realized that I couldn’t repel it with my own. So I quickly combined mine with some of my electricity in order to overwhelm it. Yet, after I fired it, I felt as if the elemental energy was sapped right out of me.
[Everyone’s eyes were filled with amazement while listening to Spyro’s description of his hyper-charged Earth Bullet. Sebastian, however, was both amazed and slightly terrified with this information, his legs shivering from the excitement of this moment. The young purple dragon then looks in Kindle’s direction.]
SPYRO: (weakly) So, what do you think, Kindle?
[Kindle’s facial features then shift into a more cheerful and impressed expression.]
KINDLE: You never cease to amaze me, Spyro. The way you combined both your Earth and Electricity elements in order to counter a stronger attack from your opponent, such as Gravel’s supercharged Earth Bullet, was quite creative and impressive. However, you’ll need to be careful in using a great and powerful attack like that, Spyro, because it can bring devastating harm to both others and yourself if not used properly.
SEBASTIAN: (mentally) You’re tellin’ me.
KINDLE: Therefore, I must advise that you do not use this elemental attack unless you feel that it is absolutely necessary.
SPYRO: (weakly) Of course, Kindle. (sighs gratefully) I’d rather not use it anyway, to tell you the truth.
KINDLE: A wise choice, Spyro.
SPARX: So that’s it? You’re just going basically to have this deep philosophical moment end without even bothering to give this new super attack of Spyro’s a name?! I’m sorry, but that’s just out of whack.
[Everyone present stared at the golden dragonfly as he vocally gave this suggestion.]
CYNDER: Sparx, are you sure that’s a good idea?
SPARX: Are you serious, Cynder? I mean, what Spy just did, I have never seen him do in all my life. It deserves a name.
FLAME: I think Sparx does have a point there. Why not call it the Seismic Blast? That’s a good name for it.
GRAVEL: Yeah! For when you launched that last Earth Bullet, Spyro, from how I felt it, the attack was as powerful as an earthquake erupting in midair.
[Instantly, Ember, Spyro, even Cynder, seemed to agree with the name suggestion. The young purple dragon then looked up at Kindle.]
SPYRO: (weakly) What do you think, Kindle?
[The Guardian of Fire smiled gently and then nodded.]
KINDLE: Alright. I approve in calling that attack the Seismic Blast. I’ll ensure to inform the Guardians of this as soon as possible.
[All the young dragons smiled gratefully. Kindle then withdraws herself from them as she sequentially spoke.]
KINDLE: Now, I must now depart and return to the temple, young dragons. Farewell. And may the Ancestors be with all of you.
[The female Guardian of Fire then ascended into the air and then flew in the direction of the Warfang Dragon Temple. After a few seconds of watching Kindle’s departure, everyone present then refocused attention on Gravel as he cleared his throat.]
GRAVEL: Hey, Spyro, I just want to say that I’m sorry for pushing too hard with that last Earth Bullet, and that you did great in combat practice today.
SPYRO: (softly) Thanks. And it’s alright, we all make mistakes sometimes.
CYNDER: True at that, sweetie.
FLAME: Hey, guys, I have an idea. How about you all come over to place tonight for dinner?
SPYRO: That sounds swell, Flame.
CYNDER: Sure we can do that.
[Everyone else vocally expressed joyful approval and agreement with Flame’s invitation to dinner. Even Sebastian, who had been feeling tense for the past several minutes, felt himself relax as he too agreed to this suggestion. With that, everyone then bid farewell to Gravel as he departed from the arena via flight. Ember then gently helped Sebastian position himself on the base of Cynder’s neck. The beautiful black dragoness then looked over to her mate with concern.]
CYNDER: Can still fly, dear?
[Though Spyro was wobbling slightly while standing, looked at her dear beloved.]
SPYRO: (nods) Sure. I think so, Cyn.
FLAME: That’s good. ‘Cause I know where we can find some Spirit Gems close by for you to recharge yourself.
[Spyro and his mate smiled in hearing Flame’s suggestion.]
SPYRO: Thanks, Flame. Lead on.
FLAME: With pleasure.
[With that, the group then went airborne and flew in the direction Flame was leading them. Sparx then zipped over next to Spyro’s head.]
SPARX: Okay, bro. Answer me this: how you didn’t use that Size-whatever Blaster thingy to take out that Golem you and Cynder fought here in Warfang?
SPYRO: (sighs) Because I didn’t know I could do it back then, Sparx.
SPARX: Oh, come on! You could have easily taken out a thousand enemies with that thing—
SEBASTIAN: (shouting) Would you please stop talking about that, man?! Ah’m already freaked out as it is!
CYNDER: I’ll have to agree with him on that, Sparx.
[The other three dragons nodded in agreement to this as the golden dragonfly folded his arms, mumbling sulkily. Ember then looked in Sebastian’s direction.]
EMBER: Why don’t you continue telling us about your world, Sebastian?
[Sebastian’s face immediately shifted into a more relaxed expression as he then gazed at the pink fire dragoness flying nearby.]
SEBASTIAN: Well, Ay suppose Ay could do dat, Embah. (muttering) Now where was Ay? (aloud) Oh, yes!
[And so Sebastian began telling the quartet of dragons about the world he came from as they continued their short flight.]
[Meanwhile, an hour later at the Warfang Dragon Temple, Terrador was silently leading Michbellus down a hallway to some double doors up ahead of them. Within seconds, they reach the doors as Terrador then pushed them open, revealing a large room. Inside was Volteer, the Guardian of Electricity who stood beside an examination table that had an object on top draped over by a sheet of cloth. Terrador and Michbellus then entered and approached Volteer.]
VOLTEER: Ah, greetings, Michbellus. I most jubilantly glad to see that you and Terrador could come.
[By now, Michbellus and Terrador stopped at the edge of the table.</b>]
MICHBELLUS: Thanks, Volt. Terrador said that you have something to show me. So what is it exactly?
[Volteer’s facial expression went grim as he grabbed the sheet with one forepaw and slowly removed it, revealing a most horrid sight: the deceased corpse of a Drat. Michbellus’ eyes widened for a moment upon taking a glimpse of the dead Drat.]
MICHBELLUS: Volteer…where did you find this?
VOLTEER: Well, to be quite transparent, sincere, and honest it was actually brought to me and the other Guardians by Glacier two days ago. And from what Glacier told me…
[Volteer then proceeded to recount how Sparx was taken by this same drat as Spyro and his companions flew after him in pursuit, ending with the Drat dying from poisoning himself before they could catch him.]
VOLTEER: …and thusly has remained here in the examination room since.
[Throughout Volteer’s explanation, the elderly fire dragon stared firmly at the Drat corpse with a puzzled expression, one which was shared by Terrador.]
TERRADOR: Hmm. This seems very puzzling; especially since most reported Drat sightings are quite rare, even during the War. Yet, this too is also very troubling, for who knows how many more of these devils are still be lurking within the shadows of Warfang.
[Both Michbellus and Volteer nodded in agreement with Terrador’s remarks.]
VOLTEER: Yes, I agree, Terrador. If only we had more information as to precisely why this particular Drat kidnapped young Sparx and what his motives were in attempting such a futile effort.
[Michbellus’ broke his glance from the dead Drat before readjusting his gaze toward the Earth Guardian.]
MICHBELLUS: You know, it was on that same day that Sebastian told me about a run-in he had with a nasty trio of Drats. In fact, they would have skewered him if Kane hadn’t come and rescued him. (sighs) Thank goodness that he did too.
[Both Guardians beheld astonished looks on their visages as the Captain of the Warfang Guard recounted these events.]
TERRADOR: Michbellus, did Sebastian ever tell you where he was when this happened?
MICHBELLUS: Yeah. He told me that it was in a dark alley when it happened. Believe me, he sounded terrified in describing that part. Frankly, I don’t blame him; I’d also be terrified if I were in his shell.
[Both Guardians nodded respectfully as the elderly fire dragon then continued.]
MICHBELLUS: And I’ve got a hunch that these same Drats Sebastian and Kane encountered are somehow connected with this Drat and his failed attempts at kidnapping Sparx.
TERRADOR: You mean to suggest that the Drats might be planning something against Spyro and Cynder?
MICHBELLUS: Yep. That’s how I perceive it.
VOLTEER: Do you suppose we could ask Sebastian about any possible discussions he may have heard from that trio of Drats?
MICHBELLUS: I don’t think that’s a wise idea, Volteer. I don’t want to further agitate the little guy’s already fragile nerves.
TERRADOR: Agreed. (to Michbellus) Michbellus, could you please inform Spyro and Cynder about this new development with the Drats?
MCHBELLUS: Gladly. I’ll tell them later tonight. I’ll also ensure to beef up security throughout the city. That way, if any Drats are spotted by any of my officers, we’ll be ready for them.
TERRADOR: That’s excellent. You are dismissed, Michbellus.
MICHBELLUS: Thank you, Terry.
[With that, Michbellus then turned and headed out of the examination room through the door, leaving the two elder Guardians with the Drat corpse.]
[Later that night, Spyro, his dear mate Cynder, Sparx, and Sebastian (perched atop Cynder’s back) were flying fast for the elevated pavilion, having already left Flame’s residence half an hour ago. Within minutes, the group finally reached the tower domicile as the two young dragons sequentially landed on the exterior platform and then entered through the entrance. Once inside, Spyro and Cynder positioned themselves on their cushioned bed while Sparx hovered next to his foster brother’s head and Sebastian stood in front of the young couple. They then interacted in a most jubilant conversation.]
CYNDER: You know, that was a most delicious dinner we had tonight.
SPYRO: Indeed, especially since you helped cook it, Cyn.
CYNDER: Oh, thank you, sweetie.
[Sebastian smiled as he watched the black dragoness give a brief kiss on her mate’s purple cheek.]
SEBASTIAN: (mentally) She and Embah certainly did cook a great dinner tonight.
SPARX: Yeah, dinner was good and all, but it’s nothin’ compared with mom’s cooking back home.
[Sebastian then stared at the smart-aleck dragonfly with annoyance.]
SEBASTIAN: You could ‘ave at least said somethin’ nicer dan dat, Sparx.
[Sebastian then turned toward Spyro and Cynder as he heard them chuckling lightly.]
CYNDER: Well, he is right: Nina sure knows how to cook tasty meals.
SPYRO: Indeed she does, Cyn.
[Sebastian then smiled with wide grin.]
SEBASTIAN: Ya know, I really liked it when Sparx had trouble stuffing dat grape down his mouth. (chuckles) Oh, should have seen the look on his face!
[Both dragons joined in with the little red crab as they exploded with laughter over the hilarious situation. Sparx, had a sour look of embarrassment on his face as he folded his arms.]
CYNDER: Yeah, it took Gravel one squeeze to spit it out of him.
[Their laughter grew louder as the golden dragonfly rolled his eyes.]
SPARX: (sarcastic) Ha ha ha. Very funny. (yawns) Now if you jokers don’t mind, I’m hitting the hay for some shut eye.
[Sebastian then watched Sparx hover to a corner somewhere to which he then immediately set down on the floor and fell asleep, snoring loudly. Sebastian then shifted his gaze back at the smiling young dragon couple.]
CYNDER: (whispering) So, Sebastian, what did you think about Gravel and Ember?
SEBASTIAN: (whispering) Well, I tink they ah both very nice dragons. Embah is a very sweet and caring dragoness, just like you ah, Cyndah.
CYNDER: (smiling, whispering) Thanks, Sebastian.
SEBASTIAN: (whispering) You’re welcome. And, I was a bit frightened of Gravel at first, especially with how he was so big and strong
SPYRO: (whispering) And how you were watching him and me sparing earlier, right?
SEBASTIAN: (whispering) Yes, dat too. But now that I tink about it, he’s actually quite funny. (snickers) Especially with dat joke he said ‘bout fire dragons and beans.
[All three of them softly chuckled in briefly reminiscing about the hinted, humorous joke from Gravel.]
SPYRO: (whispers) Yeah, Gravel can be tough and cocky sometimes, but all in all, he’s actually really friendly and nice.
CYNDER: (whispers) Once you get to know him of course.
SPYRO: (whispers) Indeed.
SEBASTIAN: (whispers) And you know, Spyro, to be honest, you really scared—no—terrified me out of my mind when you fired that, um, what was it called again.
SPYRO: (whispers) The Seismic Blast.
SEBASTIAN: (whispers) Yes, when you used that earlier today.
SPYRO: (whispers) Well, I’m sorry that it terrified you Sebastian. And don’t worry, I don’t ever intend on using the Seismic Blast unless it is necessary.
SEBASTIAN: (wiping his forehead) Phew.
CYNDER: (whispers, compassionately) And please remember, Sebastian, that we won’t let anything or anyone hurt you.
SEBASTIAN: (whispers) Tanks, Cyndah. (yawns) It sure has been a long day, man. I’m going to bed now. Goodnight.
SPYRO, CYNDER: (whispers) Goodnight, Sebastian.
[With that, Sebastian crawled over to his small bed behind the folding screen, where he sequentially placed the ear plugs in his ears and laid down on his crustaceous back as he eventually drifted to sleep. After waiting a few minutes to ensure that Sebastian was asleep, Cynder focused her attention on her gaze at her purple mate.]
CYNDER: (whispers) Well, it’s been quite a day, hasn’t it?
[Spyro immediately shifted his eyes on Cynder as she spoke, giving her a smile.]
SPYRO: (whispers) It sure has, Cyn.
CYNDER: (whispers) I’m glad that Sebastian has made some more friends here so quickly.
SPYRO: (whispers) I know. Still, I think he still misses his home.
CYNDER: (whispers) That’s true. After all, we did notice some of the brief sad looks he occasionally gave.
SPYRO: (whispers) But it will be alright though. I’m sure that the Guardians will find some way to get Sebastian back to his home soon.
CYNDER: (whispers) Me too.
SPYRO: (whispers) There is one thing that troubles me, though.
CYNDER: (whispers) What’s that, Spy?
SPYRO: (whispers) Remember what Michellus told us tonight?
CYNDER: (whispers) Oh, yeah. I do.
MICHBELLUS: Spyro, Cynder, there is something important I need to tell you.
[Both Michellus and the two young beloved were currently speaking privately in another room separated from the dining hall at Flame’s house. Spyro and Cynder had curious looks on their faces with what the elder fire dragon told them.]
SPYRO: What is it, Michbellus?
MICHBELLUS: Well, first of all, it’s about what happened to Sebastian when Sparx was kidnapped a few days ago.
CYNDER: What do you mean?
MICHBELLUS: You mean he never told you what happened?
SPYRO: No. He didn’t say anything about it.
MICHBELLUS: (sighs) Well, on that same day, he told me that after he fell off of Flame from dodging an arrow, he nearly had a run in with three more Drats—
CYNDER: (shocked) What?! There were more?!
SPYRO: (whispers) Cynder, please.
[Spyro wrapped his tail around Cynder’s as he spoke, which immediately mollified her greatly. She looked apologetically at her purple mate before returning her gaze at Michbellus.]
CYNDER: (calmer) So there were more Drats?
MICHBELLUS: Yes. From what Sebastian told me, he ran into them in that same alley he fell into that day. But right when they were about to kill Sebastian, Kane came by, kicked their tails, and rescued him. I’m sorry I didn’t tell you this earlier but I didn’t want to mention it within earshot of Sebastian, or else he’d panic endlessly.
[The young dragon couple nodded, understanding what Michbellus meant.]
MECHBELLUS: Now, anyway, the reason I’m telling you all this is because it’s possible that there may be more Drats lurking somewhere within the shadows of Warfang. So I ask that you please be careful where ever you go in the city. And it would be best not to tell Sebastian about this yet, so as not to terrify him.
SPYRO: Don’t worry, Michbellus. We will be careful, and we promise not to tell Sebastian about this.
MICHBELLUS: Glad to hear. And just to let you know, I’m having the Warfang Guard on full alert, so that if any more Drats do show up, we’ll be ready.
CYNDER, SPYRO: Thank you, Michbellus.
END OF FLASHBACK
CYNDER: (whispers) Do you think these Drats have something against you and me? I mean, one of them did try to kidnap your brother.
SPYRO: (whispers) Maybe. But we won’t know for certain until one can be captured.
CYNDER: (whispers) Well then we’re going to need several giant mouse traps first to do that.
[The young couple snickered quietly to the black dragoness’s sarcastic remark for a moment. Then several seconds of silence passed between the two young beloveds until Cynder gave a sad sigh.]
SPYRO: (whispers) What’s the matter, Cyn?
CYNDER: (whispers) I hope that Sebastian never learns about my past and all the terrible things I’ve done. Because, I’m scared of how he’ll view me if he ever does. I know all of our friends will never tell him that, but we know there are some who won’t hesitate to speak.
[Spyro gave his black mate a visual expression of compassion as he spoke.]
SPYRO: (whispers) Don’t worry, Cynder. If that ever happens with Sebastian, I promise you that I’ll right there for you, no matter what the outcome.
[Cynder smiled as she listened to her purple beau’s encouraging words.]
CYNDER: (whispers) Thank you, sweetie.
SPYRO: (whispers) You’re welcome, Cyn.
[They then shared a brief, yet sweet kiss together.]
SPYRO: (whispers) Goodnight, Cyn.
CYNDER: (whispers) You too, Spy.
